BreakPoint Gaming

I know this site isn't very active, but it still annoys me when it goes down 10x a day, and when it is actually up it runs really slowly.

There's two things causing these issues, one is the web host. I was running bpgaming on a shared hosting account that was WAY overloaded with some dodgy hardware. This caused lots of server crashes and the server not actually running very fast.

I've solved this by moving the forums over to my dedicated box that I mainly use for dev work. It actually has better hardware, better internet connection, better location (in Europe, not US) and I have much more control over the software being run so I can keep the speed up and add optimisation bits and bobs when required.

The second thing causing slowdowns was the forum software it self. I was running vBulletin, something that was once a great piece of software made by people who actually cared about the product, but the campany was bought by a large corporate machine (rawr anti-corporations!!!) that mana... My Wants (And how you can help)

I always seem to start with 'Ok,', so I'm going to start this post differently.

Alright, so this site is not going anywhere as it is, and this saddens me, I'm to attached to remove the thing, so I'm going to have to do something about it. To change this site from dead and inactive, I need to work on it, dedicate time to it, and implement my ideas. Mast of these I can do all on my own, simple backend changes here and there go a long way at improving the frontend, but what I can't do on my own/in my current state are the following things, if you think you can help with any of these, let me know... you might even get something from all of this.

Simple gaming blog

Preliminary Cleanup Complete

Ok, I've cleaned up all the mess (old thread still exist in a nice forum called 'Box in the attic') I have reverted back to default style, as the orange one was driving me crazy (not sure what I liked about it when I installed it, it was horrible)

The Future of BPG

Ok, time for a small update on my plans for this site.

I will be doing a complete tear down, pretty much remove everything, dump all the posts in a big box in the attic, restructure the forums with a new clean skin and then start hacking an actual site around it all. The BPG we once knew has been gone for a while, the reason we were active is because we had active DoD and CS clans, they both startle to fade away and the site went with them.

I know some of you still pop around every now and again for one reason or another, and maybe throw a message into the shoutbox, which then gets a response about a month after that, it's definitely a fun way to communicate. Later tonight I will be stripping this site of all it's dignity, it will look like crap and have about 2 categories and 5 forums. I will dump the contents of the shoutbox into a thread, and then you can just post in that.

Want your own server?

Ok, I'll make this quick, if you want a server for ANY pc game let me know the specs, including a price from elsewhere, 90% of the time I promise to BEAT that price for the same spec server setup.

Servers will be hosted at a French datacenter, but ping times to UK are excellent (I get 30ms to my server, and 25ms to Jolt for example)
